Q: What made you choose Portwrinkle Holidays for your getaway?
A: We were looking for somewhere that felt like a proper escape—peaceful, coastal, and full of character. We also wanted somewhere dog-friendly so we could bring our dog along, rather than worry about leaving him behind.
Portwrinkle Holidays really stood out because the cottages had so much charm, but also offered those extra touches that make a break feel special. The fact there was an on-site spa, great dining nearby, and even a private hot tub at Hawkins Cottage made it feel like the perfect mix of cosy and indulgent.
Q: Why did you choose Hawkins Cottage specifically?
A: Hawkins Cottage immediately caught our eye because of its traditional Cornish character. We loved that it was one of the older cottages, with a cosy, tucked-away feel and lots of charm. But what really sold it for us was how close it is to the beach, so it’s perfect for dawdling back after a swim or a run around with the dog.
And then of course, having our own private hot tub with an ocean view. That felt like such a luxury—especially after long coastal walks. The idea of sitting in warm bubbles looking out over the sea was impossible to resist.
Q: What was your first impression when you arrived?
A: Instant relaxation. Portwrinkle itself is beautiful—quiet, scenic, and much more peaceful than some of the busier Cornish hotspots. Arriving at Hawkins Cottage just added to that feeling. It was cosy, warm, welcoming, and incredibly homely. And then seeing the hot tub and the view in person definitely exceeded expectations.
Q: Tell us about the hot tub experience.
A: Honestly, it was one of the highlights of the trip. There’s something pretty unbeatable about ending the day in your own private hot tub whilst looking out at the ocean. Whether it was first thing in the morning with a coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine, it just made the whole stay feel extra special. It turned an already relaxing holiday into a proper little luxury escape.
Q: Did you make use of the on-site spa?
A: Yes—and we’re so glad we did. Having access to the on-site spa was such a treat and made the holiday feel even more restorative. It was lovely being able to fully switch off and enjoy some proper downtime without needing to leave the site. It complemented the whole experience really well—especially combined with all the walking, sea air, and slower pace of the trip.
Q: How was travelling with your dog?
A: Really easy. Our dog settled in immediately, which is always a good sign. Hawkins Cottage felt genuinely dog-friendly, and the location was ideal with so many walks and beaches nearby. We loved being able to include him in everything, from morning beach walks to relaxing in the cottage garden.
Q: Did you eat anywhere locally that you’d recommend?
A: Yes—Silas Cove was a real highlight. Having somewhere so close by for food and drinks was really convenient, but more importantly, the setting was fantastic. We loved stopping there for coffee, lunch, or a relaxed meal after being out exploring. The atmosphere was great, the view over the cliff edge looked like a painting and it just felt like part of the whole Portwrinkle experience—laid-back, scenic, and welcoming.
Q: What did a typical day look like during your stay?
A: Pretty much our ideal holiday routine. Slow mornings with coffee, taking the dog out for a coastal walk, maybe heading to the spa or exploring nearby beaches and villages, followed by food or drinks at Silas Cove. Then evenings were all about heading back to Hawkins Cottage, cooking or relaxing, and finishing the day with opening a bottle of wine on the patio or soaking in the hot tub whilst watching the sun set over the ocean. It was wonderfully simple and restorative and perfectly idillic
Q: What was your favourite thing about staying at Hawkins Cottage?
A: It’s hard to pick just one thing, but the combination of the charm, luxury and homely feel with the unbeatable view was what made it stand out. You get the cosy, characterful feel of an old Cornish cottage, but with extras like the spa, private hot tub, ocean views, and great local dining nearby. It felt like a really special escape.
Q: Would you recommend Portwrinkle Holidays to others?
A: Absolutely. If you’re looking for a peaceful coastal getaway with plenty of charm, great facilities, and somewhere genuinely welcoming for dogs, we’d definitely recommend Portwrinkle Holidays. Hawkins Cottage gave us exactly what we wanted—a relaxing break where we could switch off, enjoy the coast, and treat ourselves a little too.
Q: Would you return?
A: Without hesitation. We were already talking about booking another stay before we’d even left!
